Gaming on iPad

A recent research done by a marketing research firm, Interpreter, gives some very interesting data. We have seen how wonderful Apple’s iOS is for games. Plus, the iPad has such a crisp, beautiful, and big screen that gamers and developers alike cant resist themselves from seeing games on the display.

There has always been a fear for gaming console manufacturers since the availability of the iPad that the tablet may eventually start replacing traditional gaming. And I guess that is already happening, and the reports are in favor of that as well. Interpreter’s report says that there are around 8 million iPad gamesr in the US alone. And I’m sure that number will become multiple of itself when you do the same research with the world wide iPad user base.

“Collectively, iPad gamers are showing slightly decreased involvement with gaming on home consoles, mobile phones, and Nintendo handheld consoles. These facts imply that iPad game developers and publishers can definitely reach a new audience on the iPad, and should closely monitor Apple’s positioning of the iPad as an in-home gaming device, especially considering the platform’s already obvious impact on traditional gaming behavior.”

Though there are very little serious games on the iPad when compared to gaming consoles (I’m talking about games like Medal of Honor, Grand Theft Auto, and the likes), games like Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies are making iPad a better gaming device. This is the reason why non-serious gamers are also using their iPads for gaming these days.

Also, the new AirPlay Mirroring feature found in the new iOS 5, you can use the iPad as just the controlling device and do the actual playing on the Apple TV, which is one of the coolest stuffs that a gamer can do with an iPad and an Apple TV, and Apple would certainly make this big for its advertising campaigns.

So what do you think? Have you moved your gaming to the iPad?
