iPad 3 delayed till 2012

iPad 3 LogoWe have been seeing this rumor for some time now and it has made appearance again, this time on DigiTimes, again. The blog, not so well known for its rumors, is this time quoting people who are reportedly close to the Cupertino based tech giant, Apple. According to the blog, the next gen iPad coming out of Apple’s stable, the iPad 3, was supposed to be released way back this year.

According to the reports, the iPad 3 was supposed to be released in the mid of 2011. The report also says that Apple had a sales expectation of around 2 million units of the iPad 3 for the third quarter of this year, and then around 5 to 6 million units for the fourth quarter.

Being following the story since the beginning, I can be sure that this particular piece of info is the first time making its appearance. Everybody was expecting the iPad 3 launch to happen in September at Apple’s annual iPod event, little did anybody think it would have been announced before the third quarter of the year.

So the blog and the reports on it claim that the delay of so many months is due to the displays being used on the iPad. It is said that the iPad 3 is coming with better and improved Retina displays. These displays are pitched to have a resolution of 2048 × 1536 pixels, which is a lot compared to 1024 x 768 pixels found on the current iPad 2.

Samsung Electronics and LG Display are the suppliers for Apple who are building these huge Retina displays for the new iPad 3. But it is said that the companies are not being able to catch up with the demands. And if Apple tries to get in other suppliers such as Sharp, they are expensive.

So, due to all this, the release of iPad 3 has been delayed till next year, and there is nothing that we can do. So hold on.
