How To Make It More Difficult for a Thief To Turn Off Location Services on the iPad

iPad, that sleep curvy and futuristic looking tablet from Apple. You do no even have to turn on the device to enjoy some of it’s ‘features’. It is a sure shot conversation starter and owning one is sure to get ever one’s attention, but not always is the attention of the right kind. If you are unlucky, it might fall catch the attention of a thief.

Many unlucky ones have lost there iPads to thieves. A few are lucky enough to get it back, thanks to iPad’s and iPhone’s Location Services and a clever and a mighty useful app called Find My iPhone within MobileMe. The app is an absolute must and whats more, it is available for free.

For the app to work it’s magic, Location Services on the stolen or misplaced device should be turned on. But it is very much possible that a clever thief might just turn off the Location Services as soon as he has stolen the device. Thankfully, there is a way to make the life of a thief much harder by making it tough for the thief to turn off the Location Services and the way is right there in your device.

This can be done by using Restrictions from within the app settings.

  1. First open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Next, tap the the General section and then tap on Restions
  3. Within this, click on Enable restrictions.
  4. It will ask you to set a new passcode.
  5. Once you set a passcode, the app gives you a lot of option to set various kinds of restrictions through out your device.
  6. Next tap on Location and choose ‘Don’t Allow Changes’.

Now if ever your iPad lands in the wrong hands, they won’t be able to turn off Location Services without breaking through the passcode you have set.

There is a way around this as well but not an easy one and which most likely the thief wont figure out before he is caught. So now you are one step closer to keeping your precious iPad safe.
