There are different methods on how to customize the icons on your iPad. But today, I’m going to show you how to add themes to your iPad so you can also change the icons. This method is also applicable to iPhone and iPod Touch.

Although you can add wallpaper to springboard and lockscreen, your iPad is still not very customizable as you really wanted to. Thanks to the jailbreak community for creating a way that the iOS lacks. Here are the things you need to do:

Jailbreak your iPad

This is the very first step so you can change the themes of your iPad. You can read my post on how to jailbreak iPad. For some people (apparently not very “techie”), jailbreaking may sound very complex but if you check JailbreakME 3.0, even a 7-year old kid can do it. After you have jailbroken your iPad, an app called Cydia will be installed in your springboard. This is where you can get all the jailbreak tweaks to enhance your iPad.

Install WinterBoard

Launch Cydia and wait to reload all the data. Search for “WinterBoard” and click to install. Reboot your iPhone after installing.

WinterBoard is a jailbreak tweak developed by Jay Freeman (Saurik, the creator of Cydia) that can customize your iPad. Using this app, you can change icons, customize applications, install themes, iPad dock graphics and change wallpapers of your iPad’s springboard.

Search for themes to activate

After you have installed WinterBoard, your patience is highly needed for this tedious job in searching for the best theme that fits into your style. To search for themes, launch Cydia and tap Sections. Navigate to Themes for more sections that are specific. Finding the perfect theme of your choice takes time so you can try to browse titles like brands, cars, celebrities, abstract, etc… Take note that not all themes are the same. Some only include wallpapers and some will include full customization with icons, battery, keyboard, SMS and others. Again, you will have to spend some time finding the best theme of your choice.

After you have found a theme in Cydia, just install and go back to WinterBoard. Open Winterboard and tap “Select Themes” so you can activate the theme you have just downloaded. Close WInterBoard and your iPad will respring.
