Facebook Messenger App for iOSA few months back, Facebook Inc acquired a small group messaging service company called Beluga. Facebook had planned to use the acquired company’s talent and its technology in it’s groups and messaging team. The first product after acquisition is out and it is Facebook’s messenger app.

The Facebook mobile app is not very efficient. It has issues with sending messages and posts not getting posted. The push notifications are not very accurate and It often faces problems with it’s frequent crashes. Facebook’s new stand alone messenger app might hold the key to a solution to all this problem. With Facebook Messenger, we will now be able to send and receive Facebook messages and group messages. The difference is that it will happen in real time.

With the release of this app, messaging from Facebook can be finally put to use for more than just casual chatting.

The app itself is simple and easy to use, and looks familiar. The app opens into a screen showing all of your open conversations with your Facebook friends. A new message can be composed with a single tap and the best part is the group messaging feature. This feature is perfect for group discussions. Now, planning a party or an outing with friends is easy.

Other features such as sharing photos and location has also been made available.

A couple of features are unique to Beluga and thus have left their mark. These are, plotting your friends’ location on a map if they have turned on the feature and the ability to turn off notifications for a set period of time. Also, the notifications on this app is quick and accurate.

Facebook is now in a favourable position to give a good fight to Google.

The app is available for free on the App Store.
