Talkatone for iPad

Facebook has been facing some challenge from Google lately. Google+ was recently launched and it has a few features which Facebook does not. Google+ supports free video calls. Facebook was not too far behind and made available it’s own video calling feature. The video calling, however, works only on the desktop version of the social networking site. If you have the Facebook app on your iPad, it still does not support video calling.

The iOS app Talktone, however, provides a partial solution to this. You still cannot make video calls to Facebook friends, but through the app you can now make voice calls. The Facebook voice call feature was added in the apps latest update. Once the app is installed, you need to set it up with your Facebook account and invite your friends over to make calls free of cost.

Once you send an invite to a friend, he receives a message on his ‘Wall,’ which reads:

“<your friend’s name>, I am calling you on Facebook from Talkatone. You can get it on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, and call me back for free.” This may seem somewhat tacky, but considering the app is a free download, there is nothing to complain.

With Talktone, you can do more than just make free calls to your Facebook friends.

You need to log in with your Google Talk account. After that it will let you make unlimited calls for free to all numbers in the U.S and Canada. You can also send text messages for free.

The calls can be made either over a Wi-Fi network or over 3G. The developers of the app also claim to provide “Unbeatable FREE support within 24 hours.”

Now you do not need an iPhone or a 3G network to make calls. You can make long free calls with you Wi-Fi enabled iPad as well.
